One day, towards the end of the Edo period, when a plague had ravaged the town of Yamaga, a small puppy appeared out of nowhere, defeated the epidemic, and saved the town. Ever since, people came to decorate the corner of their rooms with a charm in the shape of a puppy, made of rice powder, as a way of warding off disease.
